You need a mason drill bit.
They are really nice. The only thing is that the covers came bent up, almost like it was a return but we tapped them back into shape.

Use 5/16" Lag bolts instead of 3/8"
I liked the rails very much. However I did not use the 3/8" lag bolts as suggested.Having worked in the building trades all my life, experience was the best teacher. When using carbide bits on concrete no matter what you do the bit will always wonder a little before setting in to drill the hole.Actually using a 1/4" bit first after marking hole location and using that as a pilot hole followed by a 5/16" bit worked perfectly.Take your time and work slowly marking hole location and rechecking the marks against the rail pad before drilling helps for a perfect fit.I purchased the 5/16" shields at Ace Hardware for 16 cents apiece and saved the 3/8" shields supplied for another project if they are needed. All & all they worked out well and are very sturdy.

Sturdy and good looking
I installed two of these handrails on stone and masonry steps. Pro: Sturdy welded steel construction. Classic wrought iron looks. Good finish. Adjustable angle to fit stair rise. Includes lag screws for wood and masonry anchors. Con: Two of the four base plate covers were dented in shipping. Distance between posts is NOT adjustable, the pivot points are welded to the handrail. Masonry drill bit shown in the photo is NOT included. A 3/8" masonry bit and hammer drill are needed. The wrenches included in the kit will not apply enough torque to safely mount the posts. You need a 14mm socket wrench and a 4mm Allen hex key to install.

Good sturdy handrail
A bit plain in appearance but sturdy well priced abd easy to install. They sent all the hardware for various types of installation whether concrete or wood steps.

Sturdier than expected
The quality of this rail is so amazing. However, the drill bit was missing and had to order it separately. If you are wondering it needs 3/8” masonry bit.

Great handrail.. No drill bit
Great handrail, but no drill bit included although it is shown in pictures. No where does it list what size drill bit, so it made it interesting trying to find the right size drill bit for drilling into concrete. We had to purchase several in order to get the exact right size.
