Bought this, not to bend metal for car body repairs, but to curve 25mm L steel lengths to about 1.2 metres radius to carry track for a garden railway. Took a bit of time to figure out how to do it accurately but got there in the end. The tool quality is very good and it is quite quick to change from stretching to shrinking, something you have to do regularly to tweak the results. You can buy a pair of these so as not to have to do this but I couldn't justify the extra cost.

Got my shrinker / stretcher delivered 3 days after it was ordered, thank you Amazon.The tool works great on 0.040" aluminum colored sheeting. I built some door post and curved hood and fenders for my Dirt Modified Race car. I mounted the unit to my steel welding table using the threaded holes in the base. The jaws are kinda tough to swap out but not bad once the paint rubs down off the main housing.All in all, very happy with the construction, the fabricating ability, price and delivery time from Amazon.I highly recommend for the backyard fabricator.

Got this knowing I could probably mod it to take 8mm round bar. (max stated is 5mm)Need to make some round grills for a few BBQ's I've fabricated.Not too difficult to get 8mm through it, but it's definitely maxed out at that.Just remove the idler, and use it's shaft as the guide but only make 1/4 turn adjustments until you achieve the radius you want or you'll stress the machine too much.Good idea to pull it down before using and grease everything. It comes covered with a very light oil/grease but this is for corrosion. All the critical stuff inside was pretty dry on mine.The grease nipples are for show only, or at least they are on my sample. The shafts aren't cross drilled. Just grease it all by hand, especially the gear cogs and it should last a while.

I smoothed the friction points between the blocks and greased them before even trying it. The friction points need to move easily or the whole idea of operation goes out the window. Only played with it a little so far. Turned a 3”x7” piece of 20 gauge steel sheet into a potato chip.

The quality was fine. Me needs were greater than the capability of the machine.
