I'm VERY particular about how thin my brown sugar ham is sliced, and most deli-workers won't (or don't know how to) take the time to do it right. I used to work at a store where I used a commercial slicer regularly, so I know you CAN slice it paper thin: It just takes a little extra time and attention. I finally got fed up with paying upwards of $9/lb and THEN not having it right when I got home with it. My husband and I looked quite a while for a used commercial slicer. They either were in awful condition or exhorbitantly priced. One day, I came across this one while browsing on Amazon. Hubby said, \"Get it.\" We did. Happy! I did deduct one star ony for cleaning, because it is a bit tricky to get around the bottom of the blade. To be fair--that's just about all of the big commercial-type slicers. Otherwise, we couldn't be happier. I get my paper-thin (if not thinner) ham, and hubby goes for broke when it's time to slice up a chub or two of his venison summer sausage. Yes, it WAS a chunk of change, but not overly expensive--we considered it well worth the price. A Good Purchase All Around. Would Purchase Again.
