Die VEVOR veercompressor ziet er op het eerste gezicht indrukwekkend uit, maar in de praktijk is het nogal een lomp apparaat. In de YouTube-video's demonstreren ze hem meestal met een losse veerpoot die al onder de auto vandaan is gehaald. Dat maakt de klus natuurlijk een stuk eenvoudiger. De werkelijkheid is vaak anders. Zolang de veerpoot nog gemonteerd zit, is de ruimte rondom de veer meestal beperkt en is het lang niet altijd eenvoudig om zo'n grote compressor goed te positioneren. Vooral bij moderne auto's met krappe wielkasten kan het lastig zijn om er fatsoenlijk bij te komen. Daarom kan de indruk ontstaan dat het gereedschap in de video's gemakkelijker te gebruiken is dan in de praktijk. Het demonteren van de complete veerpoot is vaak alsnog de meest praktische en veilige werkwijze voordat je de veer gaat comprimeren.

Well made, beefy spring compressor. My only complaint is the plastic inserts to protect the springs get torn up after one use.

It was my first time compressing springs. The internet makes it seem as though the average DIY’er stands a 90% chance of dying when doing so. I’m pleased to report that it went great and I felt safe the whole time using this tool. The build quality is great. I used the tool for struts on two passenger vehicles. The largest yoke fit the spring diameter best, which was good because the large yokes also have the tallest lip to restrain the spring coil. Additionally I used the yoke without the supplied plastic covers to allow the coils to sit deeper in the yoke. The lead screw ran smoothly with a little grease applied - easily turned with hand tools. The only issue I came across was that the springs on one vehicle are wound in the opposite direction to the shape of the yoke. I was still able to make it work but the coil wasn’t seated as nicely in the yoke for obvious reasons. That said the lip was still retaining the spring coil throughout the process, so it felt safe. I would definitely recommend this tool to anyone considering compressing springs at home.

Former VW master tech and this thing is as good as the one VW supplies for hundreds of dollars less. Highly recommend.

This coil spring compressor has been a fantastic tool for my workshop. I use it regularly, and it has made suspension work much faster and easier compared to older tools I’ve used before.
