The blades are designed to cut from the top and bottom of the cable insulation rather than from the sides. They are intended to slit the insulation so it can be removed, rather than completely encircle the cable. For soft silicone insulation, careful adjustment of the blade depth is recommended to help achieve a clean cut and minimize tearing.
