Why does the 160a welder have a lower input capacity than the 135a welder?
What does the input capacity refer to? If it is a 5.1kW input capacity does this mean I'm fine to run the welder from a 6kva generator, or will surge at startup be greater?
The 160A model has a lower input capacity due to more efficient internal inverter technology. Input capacity is the total electrical power the welder consumes under full load. A 6 kVA generator is too small for a 5.1 kW input capacity because arc-striking power surges and inverter power factor losses require at least an 8 to 10 kVA generator.
