I have to say that I was a little doubtful about whether this would be a really useful tool or another gimmick. Well, it works better than expected. It makes splitting logs for kindling easier and safer. The splitter is not sharp, but it has no problems splitting the firewood. Just set the piece of firewood with a tap and then use a mallet to hit it. Depending on the type of firewood and how well it's seasoned, it may take a few good whacks with the mallet to get it to split. I had no issues splitting the firewood - even really knotty pieces split. Yes, it took a little more effort, but it was much easier/safer than trying to split with a maul/ax.The splitter is stable and well made. It comes with a cover to protect it when not in use. It has screws in case you want to mount it on a log, so it's up off the ground. I'm just using it on my porch next to my firewood. I appreciate that I can split firewood with minimal effort with this tool.
