Good gift for husband

Anyone thinking of purchasing this should research the interwebs for the pros & cons so you know what you're getting. If you do decide to purchase it I STRONGLY recommend completing the modifications as it will make the machine a whole lot better. I ran the machine both before and after the mods - no question they NEED done!I give it 4 stars for a couple of reasons:- The makers know about the issues and have done nothing to improve the design and the major issues can be resolved for less than $10- Which is the other reason I give it 4 stars. Pretty cheap & easy to make it a really nice machine and if you're purchasing this you most likely have the skills, tools and knowledge to fix the problems.

Instructions and operator interface functions are confusing but easy enough to figure out after experimenting with them. I bought a dual thermocouple meter to test and calibrate the oven which got much hotter than the display showed. I created my own temperature profile using wave pattern #8 and have gotten great results. Simple to use after everything is figured out. Nothing like it for the price.

Tips:1. run a cycle with a large blank PCB inside to preheat the oven2. put the PCB to be reflowed on top of that blank PCB and run the cycle again

Wonderful. The mods for the oven are easily done. I didn't try it without them, but the oven works great.

The product was delivered timely.I read other reviews about this product about enhancements that could be made. I used it as is to solder a 24 pin QFN microcontroller onto a small circuit board using led free solder. It worked as expected. I didn't attempt to load new firmware as I'd read others doing. I used the existing firmware with one of the existing heat graphs and followed the instructions.

You see a lot of these ovens around, from multiple sources that probably all lead back to the same factory in China. This is the T962, not the slightly more costly -A model. It worked fine for me on one of the presets. I did perform one mod; the insulation is indeed held with ordinary masking tape, and I swapped that out with kapton tape as per various DIY posts. I also have it up on a pair of firebricks as it blows some pretty hot air at the end of the cycle. I have not had any issues yet with hot or cold spots, but I'm doing boards in the 2" x 2" range at the moment.

Works well. Programming is a bit fiddly, and the user manual is useless. I didn't notice any kind of tape odor (some other reviewers mentioned it).

Arrives with a 20A plug attached, being in Australia, were the standard ring is only 10A, needed to upgrade the wall outlet to 15A. Although a 16A fuse is provided, have changed the plug to a 15A plug to match the new socket. Unit has been tested and tagged, passing case / grounding tests. Have used the oven around 7 times with leaded paste. Seems to work well so far. Some beading, which may mean the temperature might not be quite hot enough. Can play around with the profile settings and see. 4 stars as user interface could be improved and the responsiveness of the keypad. Also, I think, the unit should proceed to cool down after the cycle, rather than maintaining at temperature.
